Two of India’s biggest Esports talents, Abhinav Tejan and Ibrahim Gulrez will be representing India at the global stage in the coming days. The two pro esports players will try their best to flutter the tricolour high as they fight for glory at the 15th World Esports Championships (WEC) in Iasi, Romania. The 15th WEC is all set to begin from August 26.

This edition of WEC 2023 is clearly the largest edition of the tournament. It will have players from over 130 countries participating in esports titles like eFootball, DOTA 2, Tekken7, Mobile Legends, PUBG: Mobile, and CS:GO.

Indian Players At WEC 2023

While Tejan is set to compete in the Tekken 7 title, player Gulrez will be eyeing the eFootball 2023 title. The two will put their best foot forward to win their share from the massive prize pool of 4.12 crore rupees (USD 500,000) at the Championship.

WHile talking about his endeavors, Tejan was reported saying, “My aim is to showcase the potential of Indian Esports on the international platform by taking home the medal.”

Interestingly, this is not the first time tejan will be playing for India. This will be his sixth time representing his country at the prestigious tournament. Tejan, was victorious in the India Premiership 2023 held this year as well as at the South Asia Regional Finals of the Tekken World Tour 2022.

Tejan will start his WEC 2023 campaign by competing against Turkmenistan, Egypt, and Colombia on the opening day of the group stages. Post his clashes on the first day, he will then battle against Bulgaria and Turkey on the second day. Notably, The Tekken7 group stage matches will be played in the best-of-3 format.

Tejan also shared that he had been focusing on studying his opponents, analyzing their gameplay patterns, and thus finding ways to counter their strategies.

On the other hand, Gulrez, is making his debut at the tournament this year and will be looking at making a mark. He will first go head on against Kazakhstan, Portugal, and Mali on the first day , followed by matches against against Uruguay and Belgium on the second day. The eFootball 2023 group stage matches will be held in the best-of-2 series format.

More than 100 athletes will be grouped into sixteen clusters for both the Tekken 7 and eFootball 2023 titles. Eventua;ly, the top three participants from each group will advance to the playoffs.

Gulrez seemed excited as he was quoted saying, “This is a dream come true for me. I have worked tirelessly to refine my skills, and the opportunity to showcase them at the World Esports Championships is a surreal moment,” said Gulrez.

Both these Indian esports athletes claimed their spot at the 15th WEC by emerging victorious at the National Esports Championships (NESC) 2023, despite starting from the loser bracket earlier this year. NESC 2023 was organized by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI).
