Is There Any Difference Between CS:GO vs Counter-Strike 2?

1 years ago By AI Smith

When Valve announced that a new era of its iconic FPS (first person shooter) will soon be released as Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), gamers were ecstatic. Not only will CS:GO (Global Offensive) will enter its new phase, it’s an upgrade that will come with many new features and game expansion. Currently, Valve is testing out CS2 with a limited test period where players are invited to play the new version of the game.

With so much anticipation built by the hype, many are curious to know what exactly CS2 will bring to the table. Will it be the same with a new added features or will there be a significant difference experience from the pervious version? Which is why we’ve listed down points that will help you decide if there is any difference between CS:GO and Counter-Strike 2.

Differences between CS:GO and Counter-Strike 2

Revised Maps in CS2

Many of the classic maps in the game has been revised in CS2. The design change to the maps may initially confuse players who have spent hours learning every inch of the maps. However, the new changes give the classic maps a new lease of life. With new strategies and confrontation points, it makes the game a little more interesting and challenging for players who will have to learn the new layout and develop their plan of attack accordingly.

Maps that are currently available in CS2 are:

  • Train
  • Dust II
  • Nuke
  • Hell
  • Cache
  • Overpass
  • Channels
  • Mirage
  • Agency
  • Paving Stone

Dynamic and Volumetric Smokes

Smoke grenades will also get a massive upgrade in CS2. They will now become more volumetric and dynamic, interacting with the surroundings and will be affected by other in-game elements like explosions, lighting, and gunfire. CS2 grenades becoming more volumetric means they will fill the space they are in. Smokes will also no-longer be a one way smoke and will appear to everyone in the same way.

Tick Rates – CS:GO vs CS2

The network system in CS2 will have a major upgrade from CS:GO. Tick rates are a huge deal in the Counter-Strike community. They refer to how often the servers of the game updates the action that is taking place in the game. The more ticks there are per second means the more frequent updates take place. This is important as it mainly results in smooth gameplay and more accuracy. Many have criticized CS:GO for running on the standard 64-tick server as it’s a game that’s supposed to have accuracy as its top feature. In CS2, this problem is solved through a dynamic tick rate that will adjust in real time based on the server load and the network conditions.

Graphics – CS:GO vs CS2

Be prepared for a more fine-tuned graphics aesthetic in the upcoming CS2 launch. Visuals will look much more realistic and immersive which will translate to a better visual gaming experience. Given that CS:GO was released in 2012, the graphics will understandably pale in comparison to CS2 which has all the advantages of advance tech in designing. Not only your surroundings but even your character, guns, skins and more will stand out in CS2.

Sound Upgrade

Sound design is an important aspect in CS:GO as it gives players valuable information about their opponent’s location, their movement, and even their weapon of choice. While the sound in CS:GO was good it had a lot of room for improvements. Which is why in CS2, the sound design will get a new depth with its immersive soundscape.

Sounds will now behave in a more realistic way in the game, like producing echoes, bouncing off walls, just like in the real world. Gun sounds will also get an acoustic upgrade with more distinction and their own signature sounds. Voice communication is also better in CS2, as voice chats will now sound like you’re talking to your teammates via a radio broadcast.

Counter-Strike 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated launches in the gaming community. Given that it’s coming after 10 years of the release of CS:GO it is sure to better in every way.
