All You Need To Know About Sarahebi In One Piece

1 years ago By AI Smith

In the vast and intricate world of One Piece, the spotlight often shines on the most prominent characters, such as Kaido and his All-Stars. However, amidst the sea of faces in the Beast Pirates, there’s a character whose actions and presence have made her stand out, leaving an unexpected legacy. Meet Sarahebi, a minor character in the Wano Country Saga, whose unique role provides valuable insights into the world of One Piece.

Where Did Sarahebi Show Up?

Sarahebi’s journey begins in Chapter 919, “The Ruins of Oden Castle,” where she takes on the role of a schoolteacher. In this chapter, she spreads propaganda to her young students, portraying Orochi as a hero for isolating Wano and vilifying Oden for trying to open the borders. Despite being a background character, Sarahebi’s unique ability to extend her neck makes her memorable. The students playfully recoil when she showcases this distinctive trait.

Sarahebi’s name wasn’t confirmed at the time, and she was listed as “Rokuro-sensei” in the credits, referencing the Rokurokubi yokai that can also stretch its neck. Her prolonged anonymity speaks volumes about her intended significance in the story.

She later makes a cameo appearance in Chapter 943, titled “Smile,” as Shinobu explains the effects of SMILE Devil Fruits. In this scene, numerous Beast Pirates transform into bizarre creatures, including Sarahebi and Pandaman, both distinguishable among the crowd. These moments emphasize her unusual role in the story.

Sarahebi’s character intersects with the Straw Hats in Chapter 997 when she, along with another Beast Pirate, lures Sanji into a perilous situation. They briefly incapacitate Sanji, with Sarahebi asserting her dominance by stepping on the Straw Hat cook’s immobilized body. This unexpected interaction between a minor character and a main character hints at the unique nature of her role.

The anime adaptation adds depth to Sarahebi’s character as she participates in chasing and beating up Sanji on the Skull Dome’s Third Floor. Despite being a Gifter, she doesn’t shy away from combat. Her story then fades into the background as she becomes a part of Black Maria’s battles.

After the defeat of the Tobi Roppo, Sarahebi and her fellow underlings meet a decisive end at the hands of Brook’s “Phrase d’armes: Orchestra.” Without the context of her previous scenes, one might assume she was no different from her fellow victims.

Sarahebi makes one more cameo appearance in Chapter 1052, where her students express curiosity about her absence, demonstrating the impact she had as a teacher.

Is Sarahebi’s Role That Big a Deal?

In a cast of thousands, Sarahebi initially appears to be just another background character among the Beast Pirates. However, her extended presence and unique actions throughout the Wano Arc set her apart from her peers. Her role exceeds that of most background characters, leaving a lasting impression on readers and viewers.

Sarahebi was one of the Gifters, a lower-ranking member of the Beast Pirates, and had no special Devil Fruit powers. By all rights, her role should have been limited to bystander status in the Straw Hats’ battles, a position typically occupied by nameless foot soldiers. Nevertheless, she received a disproportionate amount of screen time and development, making her an anomaly among background characters in One Piece.

Sarahebi’s importance becomes evident when comparing her to other Gifters of her level. Most of these characters remain nameless and inconsequential, with little to no information about their backgrounds or actions outside of the battles on Onigashima. Sarahebi’s unique prominence sets her apart from the rest of her peers, highlighting her special status in the story.

How Else Was Sarahebi Important?

Sarahebi’s role, while seemingly small, provides valuable insights into the world of One Piece. Her role as a teacher implies that even lower-ranking Beast Pirates have integrated into Wano’s society and taken on jobs beyond traditional pirate duties. While they may spread anti-Kozuki propaganda, they also contribute as productive members of society, a rare occurrence in the world of pirates.

Furthermore, Sarahebi’s character sheds light on the origin of the Beast Pirates’ horns. Her unique appearance as both a civilian and a pirate suggests that most Beast Pirates wear horns as part of their attire, rather than naturally growing them. This discovery adds depth to the understanding of this pirate crew’s aesthetics.

Sarahebi’s control over her Artificial Zoan powers is another noteworthy aspect. Unlike most Gifters and Shinuchi, she can revert to human form at will, showcasing a level of control over her abilities that is uncommon among her peers. Her unique abilities further emphasize her distinctive role within the story.

Final Thoughts

Sarahebi, a seemingly minor character in One Piece’s Wano Country Saga, defies expectations and leaves a remarkable imprint on the series. Despite her lower-ranking status among the Beast Pirates, her extended presence, unique actions, and distinct role as a teacher provide valuable insights into the world of One Piece. Her character challenges conventional expectations and showcases the diversity and depth of Eiichiro Oda’s storytelling.
