Who Is Wei Yue? Former Ubisoft Esports Director Joins Amazon Games

Rainbow Six Siege’s Esports Director Wei Yue is parting ways with the parent company Ubisoft in June this year. He had confirmed the news on his personal Twitter profile.

As per Wei Yue’s announcement, “the team has a long-term vision and a solidified roadmap of features and updates to support these ambitious goals. Everything we previously announced to elevate our competition & viewership is still being worked on.

Bak then Rainbow Six Siege Esports had teamed up with BLAST to organize the year’s most important competitions, beginning with the BLAST R6 Major Copenhagen in May followed by the BLAST R6 Major Atlanta in November 2023. In February 2024, they have also organized the Six Invitational 2024 wherein the best teams in the world will head to Brazil and compete.

Wei Yue’s departure from Ubisoft game in the middle of the off-season. iIt was a time when the majority of top-flight teams were just competing in independent competitions such as the Gamers8 tournament.

Earlier this week, Wei Yue announced that he was joining Amazon Games as its new competition & esports director. It is still unclear what games Yue will be associating with in the esports vertical of Amazon, but one thing is clear that Amazon Games has some solid future plans in the works.

Who Is Wei Yue?

At Ubisoft Yue spent more than four years handling Rainbow Six Siege esports in multiple roles. This included product director of esports and even as the esports director.

Prior to Ubisoft, Yue had worked for nearly nine years at Activision Blizzard across multiple esports-related roles. Yue joined Activision Blizzard in 2010 as a customer service representative in Ireland, however, in 2015 he was promoted to associate program manager of esports. Post that he worked on Hearthstone operations in Europe and supported on-site events for the game at BlizzCon.

He was again later promoted to associate program manager in esports, associate manager of esports Europe, and later associate manager of esports EMEA.
