5 Horror Wii Games That Should Be Added On Nintendo Switch In August 2023

1 years ago By AI Smith

At the time, many things were said about the Wii, some good and some bad. But something that always resonates when thinking about the Wii is that it was a “casual” console designed more for the general public than for the gamer of a lifetime. Perhaps because of its innovation or perhaps, this is more focused on a catalogue that saw the birth of Just Dance and the Nintendo that was trying to “fool” us into getting fit playing with Wii Sports and with that whiteboard, you know, Wii Fit.

Of course, there were party games, but it would be absurd to reduce the Wii catalogue to a few titles designed for those who may not have had contact with video games, because if “pleasure lies in variety”, as the European proverb rightly points out, Wii was well stocked as far as “variety” is concerned, far from being a console only with video games for the casual public, as some difficulty try to make believe.

Today, we are going to tell you about five horror games for Wii that deserve a new opportunity, and why not with a port/remaster/remake on Nintendo Switch? Overall, we already know that La Gran N will never bet on a GameCube and Wii virtual console, you have to squeeze the goose that lays the golden eggs.

1 – Ju-On: The Grudge

This game commonly known as The Grudge in the West, is a highly popular Japanese horror saga that reached its peak in the early 2000s. To celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary, a Wii-exclusive video game with the original creator of the series as a director. Far from just another survival horror, the game, The Grudge is a “haunted house simulator” that takes an approach unique to the genre, leaning more towards a walking simulator of sorts. Your only weapon is a flashlight, which will be your best ally to try to escape from this cursed place, while you search for your dog and interact with some unfriendly spirits.

2 – Cursed Mountain

As far as survival horror games go, this game does a lot of things right and manages to stay afloat thanks to its offbeat setting, intriguing story, and well-crafted atmosphere. Its hostile world and desolate landscape evoke feelings of isolation and cultivate the soil for some solid, chilling emotions to grow. While like Ju-On: The Grudge it had some minor control issues and some lag – not entirely unusual given the Wii Mote’s innovative control – it’s not enough to keep you from being interested in a ghost story that it is certainly worth it.

3 – Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Another horror game that is for many the quintessential horror franchise and, thanks to the work of Konami, it will soon be back with various proposals for fans to relive true fear (or experience it for the first time). Several years have passed since Konami and Climax Group joined forces to develop a “remake” of the original Silent Hill, Shattered Memories, a kind of “reimagining” that aimed to create a new experience with elements similar to the original game, as well as like gameplay that will change as dictated by the psyche of the players. It’s certainly a solid, nerve-wracking ride with a familiar feel spiced up with a few curveballs to make it go. The experience offers the chills and trepidation characteristic of the series while innovating and taking risks.

4 – Calling

It is, like Ju-On: The Grudge, another classic exponent of the Japanese horror genre, you know, the one that boasts excessively bleached ghosts and does not miss the opportunity to use the occasional lady with long, dark hair. This first-person survival horror experience made interesting use of the Wii Mote as a flashlight and, in turn, received ghostly sounds through the speaker in the purest mobile phone style. Similar to Project Zero/Fatal Frame, you had to deal with entities using movement while looking for different objects to move forward.

5 – Dead Space: Extraction

If Silent Hill is a well-known name among lovers of the genre, Dead Space isn’t far behind either. Another masterpiece is a fun spin-off of the main series that, through an on-rails shooter proposal in the purest House of the Dead style, manages to keep the horror and stressful gameplay of its predecessors. Dead Space: Extraction takes place before the events of the original and is led by a group of survivors trying to escape from a ship infested with necromorphs. Throughout its ten chapters, you will manage various characters while you try, with more or less skill, to aim and shoot at everything that comes your way. Sounds good right?

And here is the list! Is there a game that you miss in it? Have you tried any of these?
